Quantity without improvement doesn't work

Whenever I speak with creatives about their craft—and how they can build meaningful careers if they'd just try—I most often advise them to increase the volume of shipping their work.

The magic of increasing quantity is that it turns your work into practice. It removes the perfectionism that blocks you from shipping and opens your mind to learning. Every rep gives you another shot at sharing your work with the world and finding resonance.

But quantity alone isn’t enough. You also need to improve and iterate on the work you create. If you obstinately ship your work without developing an intuition for what you could do better, you will stagnate and become frustrated by a lack of progress.

In short, quantity itself doesn’t drive progress—quantity combined with improvement does. If you aren’t getting the results you want, check whether you’re expanding along both vectors.
